Scars- Samus Aran by ReNStudios Scars- Samus Aran by ReNStudios
So I've always thought of Samus, way before she was givin a 'defined' look under the powersuit, as being this totally Badass woman that was fairly pretty and intimidatng, muscular and covered in various scars from her battles and adventurs, I mean the power suit can only resist oh so much damage right?

I dunno I just CAN'T imagune her without at least having SOME kind've wounds.

So For more tablet and coloring practice I did this little portrait of her to experiment with possible scars she could have.

The facial (And on the left shoulder) 'vein-scarring' comes from the second prime game where 'Phazon' would infect, and poison Samus, and sometimes you could get a glipse at her face and see how badly the poison was affecting you as the game progressed. The most notable affect was that Samus's face appeared to be cracking and the veins under the skin would glow with phazon and bulge.

The faded punctures on the other shoulder (right) are 'supposed' to be from a metroid, I know, I know, metroids jst drain energy and stuff but when I was little and playing Super Metroid I always thought mabey if the Baby Metroid Samus took in, (For whatever rediculous reason) was out and about it could've like accidently clamped down on her arm, or in this case her shoulder, in shock or fear or something. :B I dunno man!

The rest are just generic scars with no real thought put behind them. 8D

Ha, this is awesome. I was searching for references for scars for my own take on Samus and this turned up in the results. Nice to see I'm not the only one displeased with Samus' canonical appearance.

Love the stories behind the scars. Especially the phazon scarring.

Yay I'm not the only one! Good luck with your own version of Samus, I'd love to see it when you're done!

The glowy facecracking phazon effects in the prime series really stood out to me, they were such a minor detail that you wouldn't even see too much in the first place, but they presented an interesting concept so I played around with it! :B

I like the sketch. You've captured a look to the face that looks as if she is asking someone if they still think she looks 'beautiful?'
'Yes' Would be the answer back.

Well done

That's neat drawing you did there. Fun to experiment around, huh? :D That Super Metroid was the last game I played even I'm aware of later games. :)

I've got to say, I like your interpretation. The only way I was ever able to justify her unblemished "zero suit" look was to assume that in her time, there's crazy-advanced operations that can replace a person's skin wholesale, and that she probably needed such care at least once. But frankly, scars are better.

Thank you vey much! Honestly the whole Zero suit look just weirded me out in general, I mean I was just so used to her 'buff' look from way old SM designs and old Nintendo power magazines. :B I can see her going throughe something like that but frankley I don't think she'd care too much, I mean she's working in her armor alot. XD

I could see it becoming a matter of necessity. As scar tissue builds up, it can start to restrict mobility. And this is a woman who occasionally wades through lava--that's got to be giving some pretty extensive burns. But that's a metatextual attempt at justification, and really, the scars are better. There are no true heroes without scars.
